Central Indiana Young Marines is a non-profit youth education and service program for boy and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school. The program focuses on character building, leadership, and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines is a 501c organization and is the focal point for the U.S. Marine Corps' youth Drug Demand Reduction efforts.
The purpose of the Young Marines is:
1. To promote the mental, moral, and physical development of its members.
2. To instill in its members the ideals of honesty, fairness, courage, respect, loyalty, dependability, attention to duty, love of God, and fidelity to our country and its institutions.
3. To stimulate an interest in, and respect for, academic achievement and the history and traditions of the United States of America.
4. To promote physical fitness through the conduct of physical activities, including participation in athletic events and close order drill.
5. To advocate a drug-free lifestyle through a continual drug prevention education program.
"I would like to let you know that I had a parent teacher conference with my son's teachers yesterday. He is doing so much better this year, grades are good and he is turning in his work. They also said that he has got a lot more self confidence in his self, plus kids are looking up to him. I do really think this is a great program!!!"

What We Are Not: The Young Marines is not a summer camp, residentail program or a paramilitary organization. We do not teach warfare or combat. The Young Marines is not a recruiting program for the U.S. Marine Corps. It is not a boot camp for seriously troubled youth. We believe that discipline begins at home and is reinforced by good habits and proper supervision. We are not a "scared straight" program.
Requirements: All Young Marines must be actively enrolled in public, private, or a certified home school. Failure to maintain enrollment in one of the above is grounds for dismissal from the program. You may be asked to provide documentation for proof of enrollment.
The Central Indiana Young Marines meet weekly from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Thursday evenings at Heslar Naval Armory located at 1802 W. 30th Street in Indianapolis.

YOUNG MARINE CREED
1. Obey my parents and all others in charge of me whether young or old. 2. Keep myself neat at all times without other people telling me to. 3. Keep myself clean in mind by attending the church of my faith. 4. Keep my mind alert to learn in school, at home or at play. 5. Remember having self-discipline will enable me to control my body and mind in case of an emergency.
